About
I realized I was in love with words as I agonized over the county spelling bee when I was in the 5th grade. I had won every match against my peers, read over a hundred pages in an old Merriam-Webster, and even received a student dictionary as a birthday gift that year.
I won, and that was the beginning of my life-long dance with words. Occasionally, the anticipation of the competition returns to me. I dream my teeth have fallen out and I’m unable to speak perfectly clear letters to silent judges on competition day. A glorious nightmare!
Several years later, in my first job, I found myself sorting through hundreds of CDs for a budding online radio station. The task was simple: sort by genre, decade, record label, producer, etc. I had no idea I was doing a taxonomy project at 15 years old. All I knew was that I loved listening to the albums, labeling them by various categories, and organizing the information.
Fast forward. I’m still having fun in the world of words and information—now through the refined lens of user experience design.
I’m from rural Appalachia and live in Palo Alto with my noisy bulldog.
